Hawksland successfully improves aerospace and defence global supply chains

On behalf of a number of European aerospace OEM’s, Hawksland Associates has successfully turned around several suppliers struggling to develop new products on time and to the right levels of quality on a number of different aircraft programmes.

Hawksland’s clients based in The Netherlands and Germany – each with separate commercial and business jet aircraft programme contracts were experiencing supplier related problems in both developing new products on time, meeting the right quality levels and supporting production ramp-up requirements. With the suppliers based in Turkey, Malaysia, Mexico and USA, Hawksland were assigned by its clients to mobilise teams to respond to these issues. With each supplier facing different issues, Hawksland selected team members with the prerequisite background and experience appropriate to the specific problem areas of each supplier.

The lead-time from receiving the client brief, a full information handover and mobilising the team members to be on the ground at the suppliers facilities took between 3-4 days. Working closely with both our clients and their suppliers, our associates for each assignment conducted a full business level holistic audit and diagnostic of the suppliers enterprise to evaluate relative performance in strengths and weaknesses related to leadership, operations, technical capability and capacities. Thereafter as appropriate our teams deployed troubleshooting tools (i.e. route-cause analysis et al) to ascertain where problems occurred in the respective organisations and production processes.

Daily client liaison and reporting led quickly to improvement recommendations being formulated. With the client and supplier support Hawksland were able to successfully get ‘buy-in’ to each of the recommendations made and were asked to support the implementation and embedding of the improvements and ensure in each case a full stable state programme turnaround condition was achieved.
